SUNOCO SPONSORS FRANKLIN INSTITUTE’S TRAVELING
SCIENCE SHOW FOR BRIDESBURG K-8 STUDENTS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23
PHILADELPHIA,
Oct. 23, 2003—Sunoco, Inc.’s Chemicals
division will participate in this year’s National Chemistry
Week’s (NCW) celebration with a community-unifying event
benefiting nearly 500 local elementary and middle school
students in the Bridesburg section of
Philadelphia, the neighborhood where Sunoco’s Frankford
Chemicals facility has been located for many years.
Students from All Saints, St. John Cantius and Bridesburg
Elementary will attend three separate showings of the Franklin
Institute’s “Life in Space” Traveling Science Show, which will
be held at the
Bridesburg
Recreation Center located at 4601 Richmond Street,
Philadelphia,
PA 19137. The first show will run from
9:00 a.m
to
10:00 a.m, the second from
10:30 a.m to
11:30 a.m and the last show from
1:00 p.m. to
2:00 p.m.
“We are very excited to work with the Franklin Institute, and it’s
great that their “Life in Space” program goes along so well with
this year’s theme--“The Earth’s Atmosphere and Beyond,” said
Dana Persia, coordinator of this year’s event and Marketing
Communications Specialist for Sunoco
Chemicals.
NCW is the primary vehicle of the American Chemistry Council for
promoting public awareness of the positive contribution of
chemistry and is held annually during the last week of October.
During NCW, thousands of chemists, chemical engineers, teachers
and students across the country volunteer their time, energy and
expertise to bring engaging, science-based programs and
activities to their communities.
“Chemistry plays a significant role in our everyday lives. We
are pleased to be able to help students understand the
importance of science and chemistry,” said Dave Lebowitz, Plant
Manager, Frankford Plant.
