PHILADELPHIA, April 16, 2004—Sunoco, Inc.'s Transportation group recently announced the recipients of their 2003 Tank Truck Carrier of the Year Awards:

2003 Carrier of the Year, Scheduled Facilities
Manfredi Motor Transit, Newbury OH Terminal
2003 Carrier of the Year, Unscheduled Facilities
K Limited Carrier, Toledo OH Terminal
2003 Carrier of the Facility, Tulsa OK Refinery
Oklahoma Tank Lines / United Petroleum Transport, Tulsa OK Terminal
2003 Carrier of the Facility, Haverhill OH Plant
Manfredi Motor Transit, Ironton OH Terminal

The selections are based on a core carrier's safety and service performance to Sunoco's customers throughout the year. The criteria for selecting our winners are outstanding on-time delivery, on-time loading, spill and accident performance and load acceptance.

"The bulk trucking environment was even more challenging in 2003, and the Sunoco Carrier of the Year Awards recognize all the drivers, terminal personnel and management who performed services successfully on our shipments. The exceptional performance levels would not have been possible without a strong commitment throughout each of these organizations. We are extremely pleased that each of the winners is the final link in our supply chain," stated Gordon Heisler, Sunoco's director of transportation.

We congratulate our 2003 award recipients and commend all of our carriers for their continued hard work and dedication to exceptional transportation performance on Sunoco's deliveries throughout the year.

Sunoco, Inc., (NYSE: SUN) headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, is a leading manufacturer of petroleum and petrochemical products. The company is one of the largest independent refiners and marketers in the United States with over 4,500 retail sites selling gasoline and convenience items.
