In January 2004, Sunoco purchased the Eagle Point Refinery located in Westville, NJ from El Paso Corporation. The acquisition not only increased Sunoco's total refinery processing capacity by 20 percent, but it also enabled Sunoco to be less dependent on the outside merchant market for its benzene supplies to support the downstream phenol business.

Chemicals produced at Eagle Point are benzene, toluene, and  xylene.
