What is Xylene?
Xylene is a chemical that occurs naturally in crude oil but is supplemented by
additional amounts made in the refining process. It is used in many common products, such
as paints, rubber, adhesives, plastic bottles and clothing. Manufacturing

Xylene is manufactured at Sunoco's Marcus Hook, PA,
Eagle Point (Westville, NJ),
and Toledo, OH refineries. Sunoco Chemicals also
shares in the production of xylene from Suncor
Energy's Sarnia, Ontario, Canada refinery. It is transported by truck, railcar and
barge. Xylene is extracted from reformate by the Udex process.
